popped into wifi cafeteria in tenerife to see how its going. lots of entries this time. well done all. i have voted and looks like a run away winner. not sure i will get wifi again till i land on saturday. still quite hot here in tenerife. about 22 to 23 degrees. wish you guys were here.... getting some close up shots of hamg gliders who land on the beach where we go...literally sail a few feet over our heads!!!!!

Congratulations Kerbside! A very deserved win. I loved the majestic, yet menacing impression that was conveyed by the combination of the power lines and the moody sky. It immediately grabbed my attention.

My ups ‘n downs:

Up: LaPistola’s Straight Wood. Composition wise, spot on in my opinion, rule of thirds etc.
I think however, you could have brought out more of the character of the wood, the detail and the warm colour, with a bit of editing. Slightly more contrast and saturation might have done it, I think.

Though wood is a beautiful product and photographs well, I think it has a limited attraction for most people, and unless you manage to create something really different and eye catching, most eyes will just glance over it, and go to the next photograph. In a competition like this anyway.

Down: Jeff’s Linear Powerlines. Well, it got my vote for the reasons mentioned above.
Up to you again Jeff, to find something interesting!

Wil’s Lining up, I expected to get more votes, simply because it’s an original take on the subject and such a sweet shot.

And my own concoction ... What to say about that ...

To be honest, I had hoped to get at least a few votes, but it was not to be.
Is it not linear enough? Too ‘out of the ordinary’? Too artificial? Not enough colour? Or did everyone simply prefer one of the other pictures?

I guess I’ll never know, but, you win some, you lose some, as they say.

Old timers on the forum know I’m just a ‘housewife with a camera,’ and my opinions are purely my own, and based on nothing more than ‘how I see it,’ and not on technical knowledge of which I have very little.

Well i must admit this win was a bit of a shock because as of Sunday Lunchtime i did not have a clue. Went for a walk with Jan and there it was, great.

Reinardina, Thank you for your kind words. I would not be too disheartened by your lack of votes, I think competition was high this week, and Jeff's picture was very popular. Your shot for me was well composed and a great idea, I actually quite liked it.

Jeff. Congratulations on your win, it was a fantastic shot, but unfortunately was not my winner this week. I can not see fault with it technically, but something kept drawing me back to the train lines by Jediboy, so he got my vote this week.

Jimbojumbo - Pick one from four

Good take on the theme. For me the main point of focus is in the wrong place (right in the middle of the shot). I would like to have seen a little more of the picture in focus. Perhaps it may have worked better if you had set the focal point more to the first domino, with the remaining fading out, however this is just my thoughts, and it was still a great concept.

Nice take on theme, good overall picture. I can not find too much to say about it really. Well done.

Lots of entries this week, and good to see too, even if it does make the vote difficult to choose. Can't wait for the next one (I may even let my daughter choose my subject again!!).

Congrats to Jeff. Worthy winner with this photo.

Ups - linear power lines.
Great photo, well composed and exposed. Impressive pylon, (I'm not a pylon geek, honest!) not one of the smaller ones you see about. Impressive sky too, full of atmosphere.
Only (minor) observation is that there is a bit of barrel distortion going on at the bottom.

Downs - Lines, lines and more lines.
Like the title suggests, lots of lines here. Well composed and exposed.

Some great efforts this week, and nice to see more entries.
And I agree about Wil59s photo, I'm surprised it didn't generate more interest. I loved the fact that the inspiration was his daughter. Good work.

Linear Lights & Columns.

Really caught my eye initially and the picture has a lot of potential. The only feedback I can give is perhaps with a bit of adjustment on position the balance of the columns, centring of the main feature v the background, doing this would give a better balance overall to the image. If this was the case I feel this would have helped achieve more votes.

Lining Up

What can I say other than my vote was torn between this and the eventual winner. I actually had my 3 young children badgering me to vote for it. My only comment for feedback would be to try and straighten the lines of the building at the back on the right and have a slightly larger border around the leading figure. I can actually see this photo in a frame on the wall in the kids room, very good idea well done.

Lastly, thanks for my voter for my effort and also thanks for my feedback.

Reinardina - Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the woody pictures, being a cabinet maker I have a bit more then a fond for wood but I also don't enter to win, yes its always nice but its more an excuse to get my camera out.

Up - Yellow lines
This got my vote but it was close between thins and linear numbers. I quite like these slightly quirky images. This one is so simple it just works perfect for the theme. PP worked also I thought.

Down - Natural Lines
I didn't get the brown frame/background. The photo part was good with great PP.
