I'f budget is not an issue, Go for D300s. It's faster than D90, Focus points and weather sealing is also an advantage of D300s against the D90.

HELP - d90 18-105mm Vs 55-200mm?

Wondered whether anyone has any advice on the new kit lens for the D90 - I've decided to upgrade to the D90 fro a D50 - I use a 55-200mm VR lens on my D50, and I'm not sure whther to just go for the D90 camera body or the D90 and the 18-105mm lens. However, I'm thinking that maybe I won't see any major differences from the 55-200mm and think I maybe wasting my money?

Any Views?, thx

This really isn't enough information to go on... You need to tell us what other lenses you've got to start off with!

In reality the 18-105mm VR that comes with the D90 is very competent, and it's certainly better than the 18-55mm kit lens packaged with the lower level cameras.

I'm not sure I really understand this though.
Are you really comparing the 18-105mm to the 55-200mm? If so, why? The 55-200mm is the budget level tele-zoom and the 18-105mm is the mid-level standard zoom. They're 2 different lenses built for completely different jobs...

Or are you comparing the 18-105mm with the combination of 18-55mm and 55-200mm - which would make more sense?

hi chris,

I have same idea with you, right now i'm using D5000 and i think it's quite similiar with D90 inside the body but the buttons have difference.

in my next plan i will decide to use full frame or aps-c camera which mean D700 or D300s

beside that D300s have a good image sensor that D90, you could tested it using high ISO performance.

Thank you

Hi

I just entered the world of DSLR having used Nikon film cameras for over 30 years and still have my F2AS and FM1 with a selection of AIS lenses.
I purchased the D90 18 - 105 kit at an airport for a really good price and have not regretted it, just got the 70 - 300 zoom which seems pretty good the AIS lenses work well in manual as well, the wallet has got to close apart from a Cokin ZPro ND filter Kit and a couple of other filters. The D90 is a great bit of kit and certainly regenerated my photography from occaisional to very active and whilst not anything like a F2 it is robust enough and whilst not imersing it it has been wet with no problem.
