I've got a D300 and a D90 as my backup body.

The pictures that come out of the cameras are virtually identical and the only difference I see is the construction, and that you have to go into the menus a bit more on the D90.

The one thing I miss on the D90 is the user customisable banks of settings, but that's just because I'm lazy and don't want to do it manually between jobs.

If I were you, I'd buy the D90 as the quality of the shots are great and spend the extra money on lenses.

Cheers

Bob

I can vouch for the DryZone as I've got the 100, and been out in many downpours with it and it's kept everything in the inner section dry, even with the zip still open.

Well let's just say that I whilst I wouldn't profess to be an expert by any means, and I no longer shoot in auto mode, I do still rely on the P, A, S and M modes. OK, so I think the D90 is the one for me - it will save me a few pennies and I can put those towards lenses etc. Thanks guys, that's really helpful.

Wrong on all three counts, I'm afraid! It's Cambridge for me. I finished up my PhD in '97 and have worked in publishing ever since.

Cambridge - very nice! Publishing beats postdoc-ing in big pharma or biotech anyway!

As this level of publishing, there's not a lot of difference between the academic houses and the commercial. It's not the best paid job in the world but the rewards are to be found in other ways, and I get to see parts of the world I wouldn't otherwise, which is great for photography!!

Have just ordered the Nikon D90 with 18-105mm lens online at Currys for £759. Thought it was too good a deal to miss!

Thats a pretty good deal! Thats the kit I bought as well at Focus last year and I'm very very impressed with the D90. The 18-105 is a good all rounder as well.
