I think the lack of comment or feedback may be one reason I've not really pushed my issues with my old account. I mean whats the point of posting if you're not going to get a reply? Whats the point of uploading photos if nobody is going to look at them? However I thought I'd give it another shot...

I don't know what the "active" userbase of the forum is, but is it big enough to sustain (a) itself, and (b) the number of forums?

Also, is there an active Mod or Admin who has rights to the back end of the forum to fix problems with accounts and suchlike and respond to user queries? If not, then that really needs to be put right, and the active userbase is the place that these new forum staff need to be recruited from.

Are Future still involved with the forum? If not actively, then again, they should hand the running of the forum and photo site over to the active userbase. That would probably be a win/win for them and you guys (I'll say us when I've settled back in! )

As for feedback, its tricky... I'm a diplomatic sort and I hate upsetting people, so may simply choose not to comment rather than potentially cause upset. I know some peoples constructive criticism is other peoples personal insult! Now I've got an account again, maybe I'll be more active in critiquing. It is of course activity that draws new and old members back into the forum! Ironically, the more controversial the comment, the more interest it can bring, but lets not go there!

I think things go in cycles, and right now it seems to be dead. I know, for myself, I'm going through a dry spell and don't submit much in the way of photos to the forum. My problem is, I live in the countryside of Delaware. It has to be the most boring, flattest place on earth, and in the winter is so gray and drab. I look at the pictures people post of big cities or ancient streets, and I envy them. I'd like to take photos of trains and railways, but the nearest train station to me is 100 miles away, and gas is expensive. Over the years I've amassed a bunch of photographic equipment but seldom use it. I even had one of my Nikon DSLR converted to infrared, but it seems that it's best suited to summertime use when trees and flowers are in bloom. I read all kinds of photographic materials but for some reason I'm still in a rut. I'm hoping things will get better in the Spring.

Yes you may be right, I have lots to see and do here but am in a w/chair and also missing a left hand so I have to wait for others and as there interest are not with photography it is not top of there list more so when it is a bit nippy, So I end up on the forums I also run the local weather station from one pc also I run the local freecycle group there I look after over 5,000 members all from another pc and the there's my photography that I have on yet another pc.

Sounds like you're busy Geoff!!

It's a real shame to hear new members talking about the site in such a way.
I think it's infectious. You post a photo/question, and no one replies or comments. And then you think after a while, if o ones going to comment on my photos or posts, then I won't bother commenting on other people's photos or posts. (That's a generic 'you', not aimed at anyone specific).

There's a handful of people here who do comment, and do provide very useful and helpful information. It s just a shame that more done, because like you say, there an awful lot of talent and knowledge and experience here.

Like I said previously, different people want different things from the forum, and that fair enough I guess.

Your right, I have found with other forums is does not take that long to look on this site at whats going on, and with things I have knowledge with if I see someone whom I think I can help just by writing a few lines on a forum I will do it straight away, In my few that's what
these forums are about and without the input from all members what is the point, as you
have said you put things on here and if no one looks why bother.
I like to keep myself busy and running the local weather station also doing my bit for the
community with running North Denbighshire Freecycle it keeps me going, it is all voluntary
work but I enjoy it.

Geoff (with your name on here as Jediboy I take it you a star wars fan ? I am I have a big collection of boxed and un-boxed stat wars memorabilia)

The competitions are a great way to learn. gets you thinking of how to fit the brief, you get feedback from at least 2 people and each weekend you learn. As for the monthly comp, this is a technique and a great way to learn a new one and improve it. Take a look anyone who doesn't join in. It is the busiest part of the forum.

Yes. I'm a proper Star Wars geek. I recently sold my collection of Star Wars toys/memorabilia. Made over £2000!!
Was hard to sell it but it was just gathering dust so it made sense to sell it.
