Which part of Photography is your favourite?

I was wondering which part of the whole photography thing you like most? Is it going out looking for the shot (the peace, the loneliness in the country, the bustle of a city etc), is it taking the shot (what settings to use, what composition etc), viewing them once you get home, the post processing or the actual final result? I'm interested to know because for me, I love being out on my own, where its quiet, with my camera, getting in touch with nature, seeing things more clearly than ever before, noticing things......all before I even look for my shot!

That said, I could always just take up country walking instead lol

for its the adventure from when i go out find something interesting, that can take sometime. then back home to finished photo.

But that's just what you do whilst carring a camera.

For me it's capturing that magic morment in Nature.

I really believe that, for me, it's the whole process, start to finish.

1. Out with the camera is great, searching out subjects and scenes.

2. Bringing the camera back to load the pictures onto the computer for a really good look and picking out a few that may be fun to edit,

3. The actual editing (on a dark and cold night or in 'my' time)

4. Until recently, using a quality large printer - turning those 'potentials' into something tangible, that I can show to fellow camera club members and hang either at a club exhibition or competition or just the front room wall!

I must admit, I do love to see the finished image, and compare it with the one SOTC

At my camera club I was once asked why we should have print competitions - my reply has become a bit of a catchphrase among the members now..... "A good print is the pinnacle of photographic excellence".

Where do you start with this topic? I get a real buzz and sense of anticipation when planning (if I plan), taking and post-processing photographs. I get the same sensation and thrill now as when I first started over a decade ago waiting for those negs, contact sheets and slides to arrive in the post. I enjoy the academic side and obviously the practical side getting out and about improving as I go, maybe. I'm not a geek but love gadgets and devices and what I can use to get a better image or just make the experience more fun. Photography is a subject so vast it seems impossible to be bored by it but if I lose inspiration and or motivation it's not long before I pick up the camera again or attempt a new technique on an old image.

I enjoy most types of photography and try and give everything a go if I can; at the moment I'm more interested in landscapes; having said that I've recently started a new project on my local cathedral. I'm also researching how to get my image to a print of professional standard so it's a learning process too - I thought I knew how to do this but it's much more involved than I first thought. Getting that tangible large print that I'm happy with is my next goal.

Moreover, I like to look at photographs and read about photography. So, in short, if it's not a cop out, all of it.

Simply for me one word somes it up challenge.

Challenge of finding the shot.
Challenge of taking the shot
Challenge of processing the shot to be what you had in mind
Challenge of convincing friends and familly it is a good shot

It to me is trying to find something special or magical and doing it justice, I do like to try different subjects and have no favourites although I seem to be taking and enjoying taking flowers either indoors or outdoors, macro or non macro.

I do love macro photography trying to expose what people won't normally see and was paricularly pleased with my lighter shot in last weeks photo comp to be able to see the detail and the build up of particles of flint.

Have to agree with Geoff,the whole process is exhilarating.Having an idea of what you want to shoot,where to shoot it,do you bring all the gear or travel light? Then when you get to the location, will you capture in camera what you saw with your eyes.... quite often not. Back home to see what you got on the big screen and if you are lucky(well for me anyway) a shot or two that has potential with a little processing,that has the capabilities to be a cracker.
And the icing on the cake is if any of the club members likes or passes a comment on the finished article.

For me, it's always the unexpected scenes and things I encounter that make me very eager to shoot photos, and the challenge to actually try to shoot it perfectly in-camera with less post-processing at the end.

I like Lowlight Photography and eventhough I'm new to it, I always find it fun, not mentioning staying up late or waking up early is part of it!
