Check out the settings in the 'Entries' thread DD! It was a matter of experimentation after I had the base exposure. I tried 30 seconds @f8 at one point but resulted in underexposure and too much movement of the bulrushes. 25 seconds @ f5 gave me a good result that I could work from. The ISO stayed at 100. My filter does leave a colour cast as has been noted several times before which can be removed. In addition, the gasket doesn't have a light tight seal which will effect exposure.

Have fun Jediboy, using that filter can be frustrating but equally enjoyable and rewarding.

Nice shot Harry. A bit eerie. Almost looks a bit HDR?? Its probably my tired eyes playing tricks with me. Still, great photo.

If ever you get the chance Fountains Abbey it's a must see place, you need some good walking shoes and preferable a 'caddy' to carry your gear, there are approx 800 acres of the most beautiful grounds to explore. Maybe Chris would volunteer

Probably the eerie effect is created by the several burst of flash which I used manually to lighten the foreground. No HDR.

Love the processing - is this HDR and if so, how did you do it? How many images?

It's this one Chris. I nearly bought a cheap one from eBay but decided to invest in a decent one.

Thanks to Sabrina and Chris for the comments re. Fountains Abbey.

Chris. This is a one exposure photo with just normal editing via Lightroom & Photoshop.

Initially I'd set out to go to Aysgarth. In case you don't know of this place it's where the fight scene over the river in Prince of Thieves took place. Quite a lot of fast flowing water and I thought long exposure.
As it happens I spent so much time at Fountains Abbey I didn't get there, which brings me to the reason for this point which ties up with Jediboys post regarding ND filters.

I've never bothered much with NDs as I find them to be to restrictive. If you already possess a Circular polariser then you almost have a variable ND filter, just add a Linear Polariser and you have a variable ND at very little extra cost.

As I had intended visiting Aysgarth I took along my Cir Polariser and Linear one, so I had to use it. The water in the river at Fountains was not very fast flowing, but I took a photo using the polarisers 5 secs @ f/20. This photo below is the result.

Harry
