im stuck between 3 lenses. the focal length is 18-200mm and canon, sigma and tamron all make the lens.
Now if im being honest the canon is the one i want, but the cost on Warehouse express is abit much, and i've looked about and theres no change in price, the tamrons the one im swaying to due to the price and i've used there lenses before, but i just wanted to know, because the tamron lens has no image stabliser, will this make any difference?
Im learning at the moment which is why im not looking to fork out too much money.
Hi I have been using the Tamron 18-200mm for a long time as an all rounder. I have found it pretty good, but am looking to upgrade. I miss the stabliser and find you have to use a tripod or fast shutter. If you are young and dont have the "shakes" you will manage, but if you like me have the "shakes" get a stabiliser..
Depends when you're going to be using it. I'm assuming it's going to be used as an all purpose "walk around" lens.
In good light you'll probably be OK without the stabiliser. Keep your shutter speed above 1/200 and you should get sharp shots. You can always increase your ISO to keep your shutter speed quick enough as well.
I think all three are worthy contenders. I have never been a lover of third party anything, but recently purchased the Sigma 50mm EX DG because of it good reports. I can report that the build quality of Sigma is very very good and so far the EX series optics, of the 50 1.4 anyway, come close to Canon L series lenses. That means you can get pro quality at the third of the cost. It's certainly worth looking into.
