Camera Clubs

So is anyone here a camera club member? I just joined my first one last week. We meet by weekly but there is a special new members meeting this week at the president's house. This is a housekeeping meeting really, going over competition rules, etc.

So I was one of the younger members, most were over 50. There was a split of about 50/50 men/women so it was not just a group of old white guys.

Not a member of a camera club yet as I'm not sure they are for me as most lean towards club competitions which I am not interested in but would be interested in learning how to take a decent photograph and do post processing.

I am limited in choice as there is only the 1 in Inverness

Mine does workshops on various topics and has photo outings where a bunch of members will meet up somewhere to take photos.

I have many to choose from in Toronto, including the Toronto Camera Club which was founded in 1888. The TCC even owns their own building to have meetings! Mine is much newer, founded in 1963.

I joined a camera club here in the uk I am now in my 3 rd year. club photography is about competitions and that was a whole new take for me. I do go out and look for shots that could be for a competition, but i always remember that i do this for my enjoyment too, a fact i almost forget in my first year.
In fairness it has made me a better photographer i really think about things now and at the back of my mind is what will a judge say.
I hope you have a good experience at your club i have had a really good time at mine

We had our new members meeting Thursday night. We went over some mundane stuff like contest rules, executive duties, etc. We also all gave a brief background of our experience. We also brought in some photos to look at. They quite liked mine.
