star trail

i'm wanting to attempt star trails but after reading up about it 1 website says use a new moon and another says dont as it will be too dark. what is ganna be best

For the best results Andy you need as little light pollution as possible that includes the moon , so yes a new moon is much better than a full moon but no moon at all is the best .

Hi Andy, yeh as Mark says you definitely want as little moonlight as possible including of course as as little light polution as possible. Whenever I've tried I've found that even the slightest street lighting - even tiny little lights around a campsite I was at recently - make a big difference.
