Canon 50mm 1.8f choices

I could do with a bit of help please.

I own a Canon 600D and have been tempted by the 50mm 1.8f as it seems to be very good value. Having had a look round a few shops though, I've also come across the Canon EOS50mm /f1.8EF Lens for around £20 more.

Can someone explain what the difference between the two lenses is please?

Thanks very much,

Not sure. Any list of Canon lenses list two versions of the lens, the original from 1987 and the Mark II in production since 1990.

I can only see the mk1 and the mk2 they are both ef lenses. The mk2 nicknames the plastic fantastic is a good buy, it can be bought for under £100.
