I have been using the free PhotoDirector 2011 that came with an issue of this magazine a few months back, and I quite like it, more recently I downloaded a 30 day trial of Photo Director 3, which is better, but will soon run out. I think it has it's limitations, but is easier to get to grips with than Photoshop.

Thanks for all the help.

Very pleased to see you are taking an interest in photo editing, But before you consider buying at £74 try Paint.Net freeware and also PhotoPlus X4, at only £21 it's excellent value for money.

Thanks, I will have a look at them. Any amount of saving is a bonus these days. I have just purchased a cable release, and some ND Filters as I wish to attempt some waterfall shots later this month. So slowly getting the bits I need to (hopefully) improve.

i use paint.net and it's pretty good, plus there is a forum where people make plugins to create new effects - these much expand on the standard stuff that comes with the program, and give you lots of options. worth looking at before spending big bucks, IMHO. i am thinking of saving for elements, but this serves me well right now...

I thought that was the point of the Critique thread, so that newbies like me can post pictures, poor or otherwise in order to get constructive feedback with intent to improve!!!

Your modification of mine, and your own photo look great by the way.
John,

I think you may have misunderstood Harry here. He's not criticising the photos, but rather the way the website displays them, in that, you could have images by a top pro and they wouldn't look quite the way he or she intended.

If I've taken you up wrong here I apologise.

That is the problem with TEXT rather than Face to Face conversation, it can be taken one way or another. I took it to mean that the photos that people are posting are of poor quality, but again alot can be misconstrude in text, perhaps I was wrong. I need all the help I can get because I can not afford any professional help, which is why I like this site! Whatever was ment by the text I do not judge. I am really happy with the feedback I have got, and think it will make a difference to the way I compose a particular shot.

Regards
John
