More for girls, but.......

Guys can comment too!

I have painted my staircase duck egg blue and white, a kind of New England/Coastal Living theme. Fresh and bright. I want to take some shots I can put on canvas or in frames, any suggestions? I have access to coastal and inland shots. I'm good at still life too.

hi i think this is down to personnel taste but this what we tend to do and it does seem to work for us. we will get a frame that matches the colour scheme or the mount will match the colour scheme. so i would look for maybe a sea scape at dawn or a misty trees lindisfarne at dawn maybe. take a look at fountain abbey is another one that may look right

do you want to complement or match the colourscheme?

white lighthouse against blue sky; shells and driftwood on white beach; boats (sailing); sunset over the sea...

depends what you can get your hands on and how kind the weather is, i guess

I am with Wave on this Dawn shots will look great, if you are going to take dawn shots then the next couple of weeks are the time to do it as Sunrise is around 7:00AM before you know it you will need to get up at 4:00AM

I did a sunrise recently and it does present a few challenges so if you want some tips let me know.

I actually had a photo in our local Sunderland Echo on Thursday which is a bit of an arty shot of rocks, pier and lighthouse at sunset. Long shutter speed so nice, milky water too. Might mount that one. In fact, this is it, but the one I will use is in colour, with lovely reds and yellows. And its brighter than this one, as I added a vignette to the B&W version.

I was wary of seaside type stuff as I associate this with bathrooms for some reason, rather than a staircase! Seems that you guys thinks its ok for a staircase so will give it a try.

Thanks.

A triptych of images can sometimes work well on a staircase.

I agree with you about the costal/bathroom thing but if you did go down this route maybe shots of orange floats or lobster pots could work well.
Images of large driftwood could tie in well with the stairs.

I love the idea of the driftwood. My brother in law used to be into photography and gave me an image of driftwood a number of years ago. This will look nice too,so could use that.

Thanks guys for your ideas so far......any other ideas?

If your going down the drift wood route, you could take some 'stone' shots too. I like the light house, though personally I'd go for a square shot with the horizon in the middle (flout the rules completely). You could then also practice some knots then mount and frame those too. Or, some lovely colourful macro images. The bluebells will be out soon, I hope. So a close up shot.and a landscape with fresh green shoots emerging on the trees. Maybe a still life of a little bunch of bluebells in a simple vase... Nice colour scheme by the way.

Thanks CR3snapper - I like the idea of the knots, however I would have to practice. Will play with a square crop on my lighthouse too. I had the lighthouse shot (in colour) published in my local rag last week.
