Jediboy. OK, you disagree with me. I can't change that. But I would point out that someone can post a photo and ask for comments on various specific things, such as the sharpness or the exposure and not want a detailed critique of the composition. From my point of view, it's only good manners to confine comments to the points asked for. If someone wants advice on a specific point, I wouldn't assume that I should then cover things that they might already know, just because as they'd posted it was fair game.

Your remark about asking for comments on a tree are (it seems to me) irrelevant to my point. The thread title suggested a purely technical query (to me, anyway it seemed a valid possible meaning) and as such any other comments would be unwelcome.

I made the post as I did merely to provoke thought on Alex' part on what I saw as the fundamental problem; and I made it in sufficiently general terms to avoid (as I thought) comments about what I'd said. Clearly, my addition to the post explaining myself was a mistake.

Apologies for going off topic. You can have the last word if you want it.

I like what Mark has done here. It looks more balanced to my eye. And it also shows the water effect in more detail and you've captured that really well. It's a good photo, maybe just needed a bit of a tweak. Good work.

I have yet to try this technical aspect of Photography, and when I do I will post here with intent to get some feedback.

Your edited version is a great example of what can be achieved, I like it, well done.
