Associating NEF files with Viewnx2

I've just upgraded my ViewNX2 to version 2.3.2 64bit and I can no longer seem to associate NEF files with the program so that double clicking a NEF file in Windows 7 causes ViewNX2 to start up and open the file.

It used to work OK with the previous version (32bit). Can anyone shed any light on solving this problem?

Mike

It might just be a case of right clicking on one of the files and selecting Open With. You can then set it open with the new version and set it to always open with that program.

Alternatively, you could open ViewNX2 and go to File, Open and browse to the files you want to open.

Thanks, I've tried the 'open with' method but the computer doesn't seem to be able to find the program and browsing and pointing right at it doesn't work. It's probably a Windows 7 issue.

I take your point about simply opening the files from within ViewNX2 but I do find it useful to able to click a file and have the Nikon program open automatically.

Problem solved!

I just found by internet search a reference to http://windowsxp.mvps.org/openwithadd.htm0

This provides a free program that enables one to associate files as required. I tried it and it works.

Apparently my original problem is a long standing bug in Windows.
