Andy it would be very handy if you could tell us what set up you used to take this shot including any filters .

But for now me critique is :-

Uneven sky exposure ,
Colour cast ,
Lens flare spots ,
Castle has been thrown into too much shadow ,
Odd patches of light and dark areas ,
The composition is going to be down to personal taste but I would of tried a much lower shot to give more interest to the sand ridges .

As I've said the more info you can give on your set up the more help we can give but it looks like you may of picked the wrong time of day to take this shot ( in regard to the position of the sun ) so I think a multiple exposure shot would of worked better or a strong ND grad filter if you haven't the editing software for combining multiple shots .

Mark

I agree with Mark. Early or late in the day, with the sunset/rise colours in the sks, reflected inthe water. A much lower angle too.

The castle in silhouette would have looked stunning.

Andy, I think the 3 lighthouse pictures in this thread are pretty good. I love the twilight lighthouse, and the first of St Marys is quite well conceived, too. Bamburgh Castle, I'm afraid, doesn't cut it, and the after effects of the 'variable ND filter' probably can't be eliminated. Quite a nice picture, but too much difference from one side to the other due to, effectively, two polarisers.

One thing I see though, on 3 of the 4 pictures here, and that I've seen on your images before, is that they need to be levelled. Don't blame your tripod. Look at the pictures and straighten them before you post them.
