Books to learn Flash Photography

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend any books that will help me learn flash photography? I have been dabbling for a few years now with a cheap Sigma flash and recently got a 580EX II so want to start taking better shots.

Cheers all,

Ben

hi my first thoughts are practise practise and more practise. look at the exif data from your shots and you will learn by your successes and failures. there are no set rules as external conditions will effect what type of flash you need. good luck

Hi Ben,

This is a good book to get you started - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedliters-...3914776&sr=1-2

It's packed full of information.

And yes practice is also a must!

Thanks to you both, I understand the practice thing, but just wanted to get a bit of ground work knowledge as well.

Hi Ben,

I second Clair's recommendation of Syl Arena's Speedliter's Handbook. It is a fantastic book. It will take you from a beginner with speedlites through intermediate. It has practical ideas, as well as some whimsical ones (such as putting 8 or 10 speedlites in a row for a really bright flash -- like I can afford 8 or 10 speedlites). It is well worth the cost.

I have got the Speedliter's Handbook now and it looks like a great book. Thanks for the recommendation.
