If this can be a help, I'm doing a little bit of sugar in the water. It makes the drop stick better, even on smooth surfaces... To place drops, I use a needle.

I add glycerine to water and use an eye dropper. I just can't get close enough!

By using trial and error I found the best way to create a droplet of water is to use an hypodermic needle.
The medical syringe will apply a very tiny drop whereas the syringes provided with inkjet refill kits will create a larger droplet. Also the inks are very useful for colouring water when doing a water splash.

This photo http://media.digitalcameraworld.com/...6/hypo-fun.jpg is of a refraction photo using a syringe suppied with ink.

TBH I have given this a damned good go and cannot get the result that I want. Can get the object in the droplet no problem but just not happy with the end results.
Think I have wasted enough time on this month on this so maybe a no goer for me as I have other pics and comps to sort out.
I will return to this and have another go if/ when I get more time.
Going to clean up my worksurfave now which has a combination of sugar water and glycerine over it and go outdoors and take some pics.

Kerbside,

I know how you feel, it won't work here neither. But, I don't give up (yet).

If it really doesn't work with that drop, why don't you try something with a glass bowl, or a water-filled wineglass. I don't know, there must be something that works isn't it?

Sabrina, I expect that there is but have other comps as well so time is an issue and I am not rushing an entry for entries sake, not given up just yet, just put it to one side and getting on with something else.

Ok like a dog with a bone kept at it and came up with this

Refracted Flower

Thats an impressive entry Jeff. I love how you can see the flower in the background and the flowers in each drop. Impressed. Aren't you glad you didn't give up?
