Still Life "Old Master" Style W/E comp Chat Thread - 13-15 July 2012

This weeks theme is Still Life "Old Master" Style - I want a still life photograph (taken indoors), that depicts the style of the old masters. Low lighting, staged props (usually fruit..lol)

For anyone unsure of what I am after, please see this link:

http://www.tommcnemar.com/p828223942...F7BD#h2ac3f7b1 - There are 12 examples of the kind of thing I'm after.

This will suit everyone across the globe as we aren't relying on the weather, the seasons etc. I want a still life, in the old master style setting and lighting and hopefully we will keep the interest in the weekend competition going with the ease of the theme.

Comp rules are here: http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/fo...ead.php?t=4313

Entry thread is here: http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/fo...0465#post80465

Good luck everyone and happy indoor snapping.

Nice theme and certainly one that needs a little thought. I must go out and get some bits, especially fruit. Having just returned from a holiday and living off nothing but chips and fresh fish I could do with something a bit healthier.

Congrats on the win DD - do we do our ups and downs here or is it preferable to do them in the previous 'Greenery' chat thread?

I see, old masters in painting not in photography. What a good theme.

Have been reading up on this. There's a couple of ways you can do this, depending on how much time you have and what you prefer. You can take the image using a staged still life and copying the old masters lighting style and use the image like that, or be even bolder and attempt an oil painting effect once your old master image has been taken.

Personally I think it's bolder trying to emulate the old masters with the lighting and in-camera techniques as opposed to editing.
