The reason I had the background in focus was, as it is a travel photo rather than a portrait, I wanted to portray a little of the surroundings. However, I can see what you and the other guys mean. Will think about this one.

Yes I remembered the raw issues which is why I said coff coff hehe anyway. Just for info encase you used the dodge tool to isolate the face you use the layer mask that was created with an adjustment layer. If you look at the layers list and next to the curves you will see a white box. This is the mask, click it then press keyboard D so the colours default to black and white and make sure black is your foreground which you can do by pressing X. Now using the bucket tool (G) click in the photo so the whole mask turns black (you will not see black on the photo). Now select your brush tool (B) and change your foreground to white (X) and spray on the face.

This is how you isolate just the face.

Sorry if you knew this.

The burn and dodge tools are very good and are good to use but are destructive. Using adjustment layers and tools that you can spray onto a different layer is non-destructive and give you far more control with the added benefit that if you don't like the edit later on you on either delete it or modify it without an hassle or compromise.

A great idea to give your image a broader story but I think it would need either a more interesting background or a more pleasing one for it to work properly but I really like your thinking behind the shot .

I have entered it into the DC Mag Mission for this month - not holding out much hope but it's my 1st ever try on the mission.

I have changed the face, can anyone see more detail? Do I need a closer crop maybe?
