You really need patiencr lots of space on your memory card and time. But i find it very theraeputic

Thanks for the comments on the water drops. In case you do not have an exif reader here are the relevent details.


Camera Model: Canon EOS 7D
Lens: EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Image Date: 2012-07-09 19:28:14 +0000
Focal Length: 100mm
Focus Distance: 0.63m
Aperture: f/18.0
Exposure Time: 0.167 s (1/6)
ISO equiv: 100

I use two flash guns both set to 1/32 power (This freezes the action, not the shutter speed) both of these guns are directed at the water droplets, not at the background. Works equally good with just the one gun.

I have the droplets dropping into a full babycham glass, for the background I printed off an A4 sheet of matt photo paper printed with random colours.

I failed miserabley in my attempt to get a flower refracted in the splash, although you can just see the pinkish flower in the splash.

I am going to have another go this weekend and try with different kinds of liquids, perhaps milk (as mentioned before by DD), coloured paints etc...
