Smile Airport x-rays?

Hi all,

A quick question about airports. I'm about to take my D7000 abroad for the first time. Is there anything I need to do before sending the camera through security in my hand luggage? I'm thinking of things like x-rays affecting the memory cards or stuff like that...

Probably worrying unnecessarily, but if anyone can offer any advice, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,

JtH

After a quick search on line there doesn't seem to be a single verified report of a memory card being damaged by an airport's x-ray machine and considering how many people pass through the worlds airports every day I don't think you have anything to worry about .

Never had a problem with mine. I normally travel with a DSLR, compact and camcorder plus the obligatory iPhone and so far everything has been fine after going through the scanner.

My only problem is my replacement hip which normally sets off the metal detector.

Like the others, I've read the scare stories. One even suggested that cameras were transported for sale by sea, due to the 'damage' they would sustain from cosmic rays etc. at high altitudes.

I've never been able to find any corroboration for these tales. I have traveled thousands of miles by air and shoved my (various) DSLRs and memory cards through countless X-Ray scanners.

Never had a problem.

Its fine don't worry, load of nosense however they can see whats on the memory card like negatives so make sure you delete the dirty night shot before you go hehe. (A joke just encase)

You may get asked to take it out of the case as I have once but it was only because it was in a large carry on case and they wanted to make sure it was only the equipment that was flagging there computer.
