Lightbulb Help needed please!! I can't decide!

Hi everyone,

I am going to New York for my honeymoon in august. I have a Sony A580 DSLR but don't want to take it due to size, weight and carrying it around all day etc.

So I have been looking at getting a compact that will be good for the job, I think I have narrowed it down to 2 but Im not sure which one to go for so any opinions would be awesome.

I am thinking of either getting the Fujifilm X10 or the Nikon 1 J1, possibly the Canon Powershot G12 but I really don't know.

Please help!!
Matt

Sorry Matt I have no experience of any of these cameras so the only advice I can give is to read a load of reviews on line and then pop in to a shop to see which one feels right for you , the only down side in asking or reading reviews is that the more you read the more conflicting information you will get . I think that these cameras are probably quite similar to each other and so personal taste will come into it , good luck on the camera and your wedding .

I used a friends G12 once and must say that I was very impressed. It's got loads of features that you'd find on a DSLR and the results can be great.
But it's not really a 'compact' in the traditional sense. I found it to be quite big, but smaller than a DSLR.
Can't advise on the others as never used them. My advice would be to go into a shop and try them and see which suits you best.
Good luck.

I would go for the Fuji X10 as it's the newest to the market with lots of great features. Check out this review: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/fujifilmx10

Hi. Have a look at the Sony NEX-7N as well. I've got a 5N and it takes nice photos. It's got an APS-C sized sensor to capture sharop images as well..

Been looking around for the same sort of thing instead of lugging my D700 and lenses. I have had enough of making do with a Pana TZ5 and have been trying out a whole range of stuff. At this point I am more or less down to the Fuji as all reviews / people with it are so pleased with it. Low light performance with exr, /f2-2.8 on zoom and great build. Just check if you get it that it is one of the newer shipments with the revised sensor - a lot of reviews talk of glowing orbs in certain shots but they sorted it out with new sensor installed and the price has been dropping nicely.

Don't know if this would be of interest but i use a Panasonic FZ150 bridge camera. You have got all the features you will ever need and a 24x optical zoom. I have had mine a few months now and it is a brilliant camera.
