At Under 1 Roof it's a common practice in the Art class to paint and decorate masks. It helps people identify with the layers of self, the layers we all hide behind or put up as a defence.
One of the people today painted the English flag upon one of the masks he was painting (The reverse featured the Italian flag in reference to the impending football) and it struck me as I saw the mask and flag reflected in the mirror that maybe it's time for England to look at itself.
Under 1 Roof is a charity. It's not funded by the Lottery, by the government, they exist on under £150 per week, for everything. Most of that's eaten up by the Tea and biscuit bill. Staffed by a team of one, lead by an incredible man and aided by the actions of volunteers and fund raisers.
They have helped 14,000 visitors over the last 2 years. Are these not the schemes, projects and options that as a country we should be investing in. This is the trenches, the grass roots, it's where things happen that transform, save and set free lives.
