Nikon 50mm AFS f/1.8 user review?

Hi there!
I am new to the forums here and was wondering if anyone who owns a Nikon AFS 50mm f/1.8 lens could give a quick review of their experience with it?

I just want to know about the general all round performance of this lens ie. its sharpness, autofocus speed, the bokeh effect, any artifacts present etc. I would be using it for portrait and street photography and also as a general lens to replace/ accompany my kit lens on a Nikon D5100.

I apologise for talking about a different lens, but I think they are very similar, and this is a great lens and a bit of a bargain too in my opinion. The lens is very sharp and I have always been pleased with the results. It's small and light so you don't really know its on the camera. In my experience it focuses quickly and can produce a nice bokeh. I can't fault this lens.
On the basis of the above, I think it's well worth considering.

Just one point I forgot to mention about the lens I talked about.
It has an aperatire ring which occasionally can get caught and moved. This can be a bit of a pain when you're about to take a photo and you get EE flashing up. Minor point and not really a problem but thought I'd mention it.

I have both and they are two very good lenses. The 1.8D doesn't have a built in auto-focus motor, so depending on the model of camera you have you will have to focus manually. If you have a D90, D7000 or anything higher up in the range you will be ok.

It's a very good lens, however I'd recommend the Nikkor 85mm f1.8G lens for portrait work, as the 50mm is still a fraction too wide and can mildly distort facial features I have found. I also tend to find myself too close to my subject and this can make them uncomfortable and spoil your shot as they're not relaxed.
