Which printer

Hi I know this has probably been covered but looking to buy a printer, I have a budget of approx £150- £200 and having looked at a few I am even more confused, I only do it really as a hobby! I have seen a canon a4 printer that as 6 inks and a canon a3 printer with 5 inks, can anyone advise me on how much better the quality would be by having the extra ink? I don't need to print a3 but if not much difference in quality it would be nice to have the option? Any advise is appreciated

The six ink printers I believe have an additional grey ink which is to provide better black & white prints. I currently have an MP610 which uses 5 inks, this produces great colour prints however black & white prints have a slightly green tinge to them.

If I was going for A4 then I personally would go for the MG6150 however if you are not likely to do Black & White printing then I would stick with one of the 5 ink system printers. Of course the ink costs are higher than a 5 ink system and you really do need to use genuine canon ink and paper to get the best quality prints.

I did consider an A3 printer but the sticking point for me was the physical space it took on a desk which of course is another consideration.

Its personal choice really but Huwlet Packard or Cannon are quit good but as I said personal choice

Think I'm gonna go for the canon mg6250 with the extra ink as I quite like b&w pictures, it would be great if anyone has used one of these and can tell me if its worth it!

I don't know if different manufactures have different ink's but my Epson 6 ink printer has 1 x Black , 1 x Cyan , 1 x Light Cyan , 1 x Magenta , 1 x Light Magenta and 1 x Yellow .

I have an MG6250 and its an excellent printer but as has been said its thirsty on the inks also I dont use compatibles as I dont feel they are value for money as I always feel that the quality of the print suffers. So you pays yer money and makes yer choice

I agree....... though I've, personally, never noticed any difference with the 'compatible' inks - I've been using an Epson Pro4000 - an 8-cartridge beast and the Epson cartridges are $140 each (220ml)............ more than $1000 for a complete set. That was simply out of the question for me and I found compatibles at $22 each.

I notice that the latest Epson - the 3000 - has tiny little cartridges - no idea how long they last but at least they're cheaper. It also uses NINE cartridges, including three different blacks - giving excellent b&w quality. However only 8 of the cartridges are used at a time and the automatic change of blacks, when required, is a big waste of ink and paper (as it cleans and checks nozzles each time and wants to use paper.

Printer ink, though, is the equivalent of the replacement blades for razors - buy a new razor and you get some new blades with it...... replacing the blades is always surprisingly costly. I'm sure that replacing printer ink only costs slightly less than buying a new printer.

$1000, for a set of inks. Sounds like the Japs are going to build a few more aircraft carriers

with the price of original inks nowadays it's cheaper to have your images printed by a 3rd party
it doesn't make economical sense to buy a printer any more
if it's convenience your after fair enough but anything after that...
