Tutorials??

Hi,

I'm pretty new to the photoshop arena and don't really know what I'm doing. I've had a look at some of the tutorials on here, and googled a few things which has helped.

Does anybody here have any recommendations for websites that do good tutorials?
I use PSE9.

Many thanks,

Chris

In my experience tutorials tend to be 'job specific'. They focus on a particular aspect and often require you to have basic knowledge beforehand.
I would recommend getting a book (Scott Kelby does some good ones) and working your way through the basics.

I second that........ best to get something to cover all the tools and features first - and that really means a book that you can have open by your computer to read and fully comprehend. After that, tutorials are fine but, as jet_kit says, tend (naturally) to completing one major editing task and expect you to understand what's going on. Even the dedicated Photoshop magazines do the same - and if you're not used to using the tools you can easily get lost and be discouraged.

I always use Lynda.com for the video tutorials when new versions come out and have used the basic/beginners videos which seem to talk you through first use then talk about the tools and show you what they do on the video screen so you can see. They provide exercise files also so you can do as there doing to get some hands on experience. I find these video's far better than books but then im dyslexic and can struggle to read. We all have different ways we learn better so if books arn't your thing maybe the videos are.

Another recommendation for Scott Kelby's books.

I bought his Photoshop CS2 For Digital Photographers a few years ago and I still find myself dipping into now and again even though I'm currently using CS5.

He has a very clear concise way of explaining things.

Thanks for the advice. It's going to be a steep learning curve. I've managed t get my hands on a copy of the missing manual Which looks good. Will have a look a the Scott Kelby book too and the sites suggested.
Thanks again,

Chris
