Sorry, but I'm not blinkered! I just don't like giving the impression that the majority of British youngesters conduct themselves in that manner, when they don't.

Looking through the images again in the "This Is Britain" category, it strikes me that many of the images have indeed got a certain unique look to to them. I wonder just how many hundreds of the entries in that category came under a "photo cliche" heading.
I therefore presume that many of the shortlisted images made the cut because they are different. They do not fit in with the usual expectations and are therefore showing a degree of innovation, and a somewhat unusual choice of subject.
In picking out one image in particular, that of the guys having a good old beano. I have to say that shot might be somewhat hard to get. Forget the subject matter. Just imagine the the difficulties. Quite apart from camera techniques, there would be the matter of framing several guys the worse for wear, who would not be sitting still or posing.

Unhappy Interest decreased

I think not only the quality of photos has decreased but also the interest of the photos. Namely the landscape commended consisted of an aerial shot, the overdone river shot, and an image of snowy trees. I don't deny that in themselves they where good quality shots but they certainly aren't innovative or particularly interesting to look at.
Moving onto 'Man made', another category that i was eagerly waiting to see the results of, was also disappointing, I'm not sure two gardens chairs and a bench are among the most interesting man made items but maybe that's just my opinion.
Overall a disappointing year for the competition.

Surely this should not have been called "This Is Britain". More like "Boozey Britain" ?

Your views please...
I agree totally with you on this. When I saw the winning entries, I couldn't believe it! Disappointment is an understatement!

Whilst I would agree that no one wants to see a Britain portrayed through Rose tinted spectacles, but do we really need to be reminded of the binge culture that is so prelavent throughout many parts of the UK (or aywhere else for that matter)?

These images would certainly put me off from visting Britain if I were from another country. In fact, I showed a copy of the magazine with the winning entries to some of my friends abroad. They were most unimpressed.

I agree with andreasphotography that it would have been far better to potray Britain in a more positive and upbeat manner, rather than the sleazy, boozy warts and all theme.

Its really hard to find anything positive in this country lately. I went out with my camera today and the only things worth photographing were the negative aspects of my town. The photos might not be pleasant to look at but its fact that Britain does have a boozey culture.
