Sigma 10-20 which one?

Was looking at the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM or the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
There is a £100 difference between the two, as an amateur will it be in my interest to go for the cheaper option?

Yes, go for the cheaper one, as it's sharper according to all who use it.

Oldboy is right, all the tests indicate that the f4-5.6 is a slightly sharper lens. But I wouldn't let that guide me. The question you need to ask yourself is, "Do I need the extra ½ stop?" The answer is almost certainly to be 'No' as most of us try to shoot in the lenses 'sweet spot' if possible which is going to be around f8.
The next question is are you likely to want to shoot with a minimal depth of field (will only really apply to close-ups). If you do, and I can't imagine a situation where I would, then spend the extra money, if you can afford it.
If the answer to both questions is an emphatic 'No' then save yourself some money, buy the cheaper one and you're £100 on your way to your next purchase.

I remember MattUK saying he got the f3.5 one because it was slightly sharper according to tests. I took a quick look and I do not know where he got that from. I cannot find a direct comparison.

I plan to get the cheaper one. Then again, I have only ever bought used lenses but I cannot find any wide angle used.

That is ok. Oddly, in one of the photos he posted, I can see that the left side does look somewhat distorted.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was considering buying the f/3.5 but as has been pointed out it's highly unlikely I would be shooting that wide at any time.

I have the cheaper one as it uses a 77mm filter thread (like most of my lenses) and 90% of the time I use it on a tripod at f8 or narrower so the wider aperture makes no difference

yes I am thinking about buying 10-20 sigma lens but will it autofocus on my nikon d5100? also is it possible to shoot a group of people with this lens? will they look good/normal? or a bit different? i would shoot from close distance. sorry for silly question
