evaluation help

hey guys,

could you please tell me how much you like each picture out of 10 (1 = not at all, 10= love it) and what i could have done with my camera and on Photoshop to improve it (e.g levels, curves, longer exposure, lower aperture etc..).

thanks,

Jan

1st 6/10

Maybe a bit of negative exposure compensation as the blacks look a bit washed would could also be helped with a slightly shorter exposure and a different metering mode. In photoshop I would use the levels to bring the highlights down slightly. Reading the histogram shown me you needed to increase the shadow to about 11 and decrease your highlights to about 246. I would use the curve tool to to knock of the rest of the washed colours and saturate the sky. Then I would add a bit of saturation and vibrance and a touch of brightness. I may have attempted to mask around the Island and blacken a bit to help it stand out a bit.

2nd 5/10

A lower score only due to the horizon line. So in camera I would have tried to get the horizon line straighter but I don't always get it right so its the first thing I would have done in PP. In PS or any PP i would have used the levels tool (always first thing after horizon correction if needed) and decreased the hightlights and adjusted the mid point slightly. Then curves to bring the sea and boat blacker. May a mask to help the boat pop out but then I like the slight fade bend this boat has. I may have also been tempted to sharpen the sun and give it more definition.

All in all nice pictures and worthy of higher scores.
