silly question?

ok, might sound silly, but I was just curious.
Which eye do you use to look through your view finder?
I'm right handed (don't know if this has anything to do with it), and I close my right eye and use my left to view images.
I've noticed that most photographers use there left eye to look through the view finder.
I've tryed using my left eye, but it feels odd to me.

Any thoughts in the matter anybody?

With my Canon 500d the viewfinder is off-centre to the left (when looking from the back). So if I look through the viewfinder with my right eye, my nose sits to the side of the camera lcd. If I use my left eye, my nose presses on the camera grip and I find it uncomfortable (and no I don't think I've got a particularly big nose ). Also the controls are on the right hand side, including the WB and AV (which are on the back and controlled with my thumb), if I used my left eye, my nose would be in the way of me changing these. Other Canon models and Nikon cameras might have their viewfinders and controls in different positions, hence the right eye/left eye preference.

I also keep my left eye open, so I can see if anything is about to hit me :-)

Nick
BTW I'm right handed

I use my right eye. I too am right handed and it feels natural to use my right eye.
It's also my Primary eye.

Do you use your left or right eye? I'm a bit confused!

I'm a cyclops so have no choice, only joking I tend to use my right eye as I don't have a best eye and it feel natural to me so I guess in my case it is down to comfort.

hmmmm, looks like I'm the only person using my right eye!
I can't explain how this came about, as I never thought of me having a stronger eye.
All I know is that I leave nose marks on my rear screen......

I bet there are many people right now lifting their camera to their faces and checking which eye they use for the viewfinder....... it's a strange thing. My left eye is actually worse than my right (I'm 60, these things happen). Thinking back to when I was holding a rifle, I can't really believe I used my left eye as it would have had me in an odd position, across the ****, to line up the sights.

Edit..... HAHAHA - the word "b u t t" got removed!

Hmmmm.
Right-handed. Sight a rifle/shotgun with my right eye, use right eye on the viewfinder.
Obviously don't need my left eye all. Maybe I'll sell it. However, it does come in handy when I want to see what number bus is coming, but anything closer than 1M is a blur (but then I'm even older than Geoff!)

Same here right eye for a rifle and left for the camera. The greasy marks on the LCD don't bother me as I only use it for the histogram.
just about all of my previous cameras didn't have an LCD, but then I'm probably older than both Geof & Chris

I tend to use my left eye when shooting in landscape mode and my right eye when in portrait mode. Now why is that I wonder?
