I have tried to find out how to open a black layer in cs3. I can open new layer but its always white. Its probably something really simple but when i google it all i get is converting images to black and white.

Thanks.

Either use a blank layer and then fill it with black (Edit - Fill), or just make a Solid Colour Adjustment Layer (easier to set to default colours to begin with - just hit D).
