Wide-Jawed Viciria | Viciria Praemandibularis | Salticidae family [ Jumping spider ]

The jumping spider family (Salticidae) contains more than 500 described genera and about 5,000 described species, making it the largest family of spiders with about 13% of all species.

Jumping spiders have good vision and use it for hunting and navigating. They are capable of jumping from place to place, secured by a silk tether. Both their book lungs and the tracheal system are well-developed, as they depend on both systems (bimodal breathing).

Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens + 20mm ET + Raynox DCR-250

ISO200
pop flash + DIY diffuser

Thick-headed flies [ Conopidae ]

Conopidae, usually known as the thick-headed flies, is a family of flies within the Brachycera suborder of Diptera. Flies of the family Conopidae are distributed worldwide except for the poles and many of the Pacific islands. About 800 species in 47 genera are described worldwide, approximately 70 of which are found in North America. The majority of conopids are black and yellow, or black and white, and often strikingly resemble wasps, bees, or flies of the family Syrphidae, themselves notable bee mimics. Conopids are most frequently found at flowers, feeding on nectar with their proboscis, which is often long.

Ideopsis Vulgaris Macrina [ Blue Glassy Tiger ]

The Blue Glassy Tiger shares the same habitats with the Dark Glassy Tiger (Parantica agleoides). When the two species fly together it is not easy to separate them. However, when the butterflies stop to feed or to rest, the presence of a transverse black bar in the forewing cell distinguishes the Blue Glassy Tiger from the Dark Glassy Tiger.
This species is common in Singapore, particularly in the coastal mangrove areas. The butterflies are also attracted to the partially dried plants of Heliotropium indicum, usually turning up within an hour or two after the plants are hung up in the forest reserves.

Technical info:

Canon 100mm f2.8 L macro lens only
f11
1/125
ISO 100
pop flash + DIY diffuser
handheld

Mycalesis visala [ The Long-brand Bushbrown ]

The Long-brand Bushbrown (Mycalesis visala) is a species of satyrine butterfly found in Asia. It might include the Tamil Bushbrown as subspecies. It is one of several species of the genus Mycalesis found in Singapore. The butterflies are small, drab brown with a pale post-discal band on the underside of both wings, often with a wingspan not exceeding 50mm, and have multiple ocelli on both the upperside and underside of the wings. They tend to fly in semi-shaded environments, amongst grasses and undergrowth along the fringes of wooded areas. They are not fast-flyers, preferring to remain low in the undergrowth and stop with their wings folded upright. However, they are skittish, and not easy to photograph properly.

Technical info:

Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens only
f11
1/125
ISO 200
DIY diffuser + pop flash
handheld
