Photoshop CS6

Photoshop CS6 is now available in Beta. Just in case anyone is tempted, here's a link to download the Beta version to try out.

I've been using CS6 since thursday. Like the new interface, one or two very interesting new tools. The "Content Aware Move" tool is pretty impresive, but not something I would use. However I find it to be very fast which would be a bonus.

Can't see me paying a couple of hundred £s to upgrade though. Maybe they'll do a cheap upgrade like Lightroom

Hi Harry,
I've given it a try and quite like the new interface and the speed. Content Aware Move is awesome, but I'm struggling to think when I might use it.
If Mr Adobe wants to offer it to me as an upgrade from CS5 @ £50 we could do a deal. But I wouldn't consider it any other way.

Sadly, enough professional enterprises - graphics studios, print houses, gallery printers etc - will get the upgrade, whatever it costs (a tax deductible item). That will make Adobe feel smug because they've added the bare minimum, as usual, to a new version (though I'll admit that the fast graphic 'engine' sounds good). The enthusiast (pro or am) will have to catch up somehow because Adobe just won't give any support to older versions.

Not so much an alternative, but maybe something to consider as enhancements to older PS versions (and even PS Elements)....... I've recently been looking at OnOne Perfect Suite software - quite a bit cheaper and a superb looking set of plug-ins.

As another thought....... what's the current situation regarding the editing of 16-bit images in Photoshop? Most importantly - can layers be used? CS4 couldn't do it, no idea about CS5 or, now, CS6. Always seems quite pointless to open an image from ACR (or LR equivalent) only to find that your editing options are limited and that nothing that uses layers can be done. Is it stating the obvious to say that, once you edit an 8-bit image, it can't be 'upgraded' to 16-bit?
