Error message when shooting in HDR mode D5100

I have recently purchased a D5100.

When trying to select the HDR mode I keep getting an error message 'Can't select HDR in the current camera settings', I've switched to Jpeg mode and selected no flash (as per the user manual) but still no luck

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I would check the manual again...my guess is there is some other required settings or settings that are not compatible with HDR mode besides no flash.

I just downloaded the D5100 manual, and found these things. Maybe one of them is the problem.

You can't use HDR (or bracketing or multiple exposure) with Q.
You can only use PASM modes for HDR.

Maybe it's not working because you're in one of the auto modes? I think HDR only works in the other modes.

Yes, I've had that message as well, I think like you it was because I was shooting in raw/jpeg, I seem to remember its jpeg only!! (Will have to recheck it myself now)
