Lens Warranty Card

As some of you will know, I have a problem with a Sigma wide angle lens.

I received with lens with a warranty card but it isn't filled in. Do I have to fill it in? And should Sigma(UK) accept it?

Thanks

I don't know the answer to the card filling question. I have returned products to Canon UK for warranty work and never filled out a warranty card. They have merely requested proof of date of purchase.

I believe you got your lens from outside the UK. I know of people who have tried to return them to Sigma UK having imported them and have been told that Sigma will honour the guarantee but ONLY if you have proof that you paid VAT when you imported the lens. (that may include proof of import duty also, I can't remember, but if you were billed for VAT then import duty would have been added as well)

The best way to get a direct answer to your questions is to ring Sigma UK. They are in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and their number is 01707 329999.

Their website is http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com

I have never bothered to fill one in but have registered a camera or lens online instead. Just go to the sigma site and register it there? As long as you have your receipt you will be covered under the warranty for repairs if it becomes defective.

No need to fill in Warranty but, as Cathus says and from Sigma (UK) site:
Quote:
Sigma lenses do come with a 1 year international warranty, however, the warranty is only honoured if VAT and duty have been paid on importation into the UK, otherwise it is an illegal import. Once these taxes have been taken into account, our customers usually find it better value to buy an official UK imported lens. Sigma UK also offer an extended 2 year warranty on all EX lenses which have been imported through us
We bought a lens from 7dayshop and, although VAT/duty had been paid by 7dayshop, Sigma wanted to see actual proof of VAT. As this is only shown on the 7dayshop mailing envelope which had been discarded (and 7dayshop wouldn't provide any further assistance in proving VAT paid) Sigma (UK) initially refused to honour the warranty. However, my having dealt with them on a number of occasions (mainly enquiring/dealing with info as I've a couple of cameras and some lenses), Sigma were OK with it - but we've never bought anything significant from 7dayshop since!
