Smile Monthly Competition - Panoramic Photography (25th Feb - 25th March)- CHAT THREAD

Oh yes, Panoramic photography can produce a fantastic image in doors or out doors. The skill to learn is how to take the photo with constant settings and stitch them together.

Making a panoramic photo really is only taking the pictures, stitching them together on your computer. The more effort and attention you put into the first step, the easier the second step will be and the more realistic your final photo will look.

There's a tutorial HERE, but many more on the web or on this site? If you have a camera that does this for you, you're onto a winner of course!

RULES
You must take at least 4 photos either horizontally or indeed vertically. Any editing is permitted but the photos must have been taken between 25th Feb and 25th March 2012.

Should be fun.

Had a crack at a panoramic shot tonight - turned out pretty well. 6 shots stitched together. Needed to use AE lock to keep the exposure the same for each shot. Worked well, but need to find out how I can lock it without holding the button down. Time to read the manual. :-)

Switch to manual, set your exposure, focus, switch off AF and then take your shots well that is how I have done it in the past.

Very nice shot BTW.

Doh, you're so right. Manual mode would have done it. I started in Aperture Priority and didn't think to change. Sun setting, tide coming in - it felt like a bit of a rush. I'm prepared for next time now though! Ta.

I have never done a panorama because I do not have a good tripod head for it. Both of my tripods have ball heads (one a regular ball head, the other a pistol grip ball head). Neither of them are of the type that has an adjustment for doing panos. Perhaps I have an excuse to upgrade
