Fancy earning £20?

We're looking for PhotoPlus readers to review the kit they own for our regular Your Gear page.

Are you a Canon D-SLR user? Do you own an essential piece of kit or a must-have accessory that you think other PhotoPlus readers should know about? If so, send us a review, and in return we'll pay you £20. Simples.

Whether it's a lens, camera, flashgun or reflector, or you couldn't do without a card reader, camera strap, camera bag or sensor cleaner, we want to hear about it...

Here's what we'd need:

The name of the kit
Your name
The name of the camera you use
A picture of you with your camera
A picture of the kit you're reviewing

What it is: 50-60 words describing exactly what it is, what it does, why you'd need it and how much it cost.

Why you like it: 50-60 words on why you would recommend it to other readers. What do you use it for? Why is better than the alternatives? Does it improve your photography?

Buy it if: Approx 50 words about why other readers should buy/use it. What are the benefits?

PhotoPlus verdict:
One brief pro
One brief con

Send your reviews (and photos) to me at sophie.spicer@futurenet.com and we'll send you a cheque for £20 if your review is printed.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Looks like here we go with an emphasis on Canon gear then following the demise of DC mag site and merger of the magazines. Others feared this might happen in the lead up to this site - did not take long!
How about payng for other reviews for other camera manufacturers of must have equipment for DCMag to equal things up then?
Silence expected!

This is quite insulting, talk about cheapskate journalism, a coupl of hours effort a couple of pictures all for £20, and that's if it's used. What sort of people do you think we are? Hang your head in shame!

You'll go far Ms Spicer.

Well if you think about it - if an amateur writes a review - how much should they be paid? Do you know the starting salary of a staff writer? Trust me, 20 quid is a good offer and I'm gonna give it a go! As JerryWSL said - this is the Photoplus thread - a magazine for Canon uses, so not really biased at all! Personally getting a little peeved at the amount of negativity on this site from its users - jeez if its that bad - go elsewhere!

And very lucky you Canon users are for having a dedicated section of the website - I did not realise you were not allowed to criticise content Just seems a shame that yuo have a Canon section offering monetary reward for articles when there is a whole range of other DSLR / compact users out there who are denied the same opportunity on what is supposedly a broad based website. Talk about making camp divisions wider!

Maybe there should be some sort of control preventing any non-Canon user from entering the Photoplus section of the website - if there is a filter I must not have it active :-)

The request is for reviews for publication in a Canon specific magazine, how exactly would opening them up to users of other systems help them get what they need for that magazine?

The Your Gear page has been running as a regular feature for the past 28 issues, and each issue we run reviews from three PhotoPlus readers – each of which receive £20 for their time, and as far as I am aware are more than happy to take part.

Apologies if any PhotoRadar users are unhappy about this specific PhotoPlus request. We have been contacting PhotoPlus readers via email every month for two years to take part in this feature, and now that we have a way of contacting more readers through this site, I simply took the opportunity to get more people involved.

Hopefully plenty of readers will get in touch, and once we have made contact there will undoubtedly be other ways in which they can become involved in the magazine, which can only be a good thing, right? I, for one, am pleased to have the opportunity, through this website, to communicate more with our readers, so hope that the majority of you agree that this is a good thing.

Hope to hear more from you.

But they want reviews for a Canon magazine, so why would they want to pay for other systems? You seem to be intentionally missing that important point.

While I do see what you mean I think that would be a matter for the wider ranging forums on this site and of course the Management of the other photo mags in Futures stable.

This is as its name implies a forum or thread if you will, about a magazine for Canon owners now I haven't seen a lot of advertising by Nikon on his site yet and he that pays the piper and all that, so it is not surprising that this is the way it is.

And yes £20 is reasonable for a few words and pics from an amateur though I would be concerned if it grew to be more than that as peoples jobs would be at risk.
