CHAT: Abstracts, weekend competition for 2/17-2/19

Hello everyone! What an honor to get to pick the next subject for the competition. I have never done this before so please bear with me if I do something wrong I am sorry! I picked Abstracts as the subject of our next competition because it is something I have been wanting to practice here lately. It is something everyone can do, indoors or out, the possibilities are endless! There are no PP rules, do whatever you want however you want, as long as it turns out abstract! Hope everyone has fun with this one, there is so much you can do!

Don't forget to post your entry in the entries thread!

I might give it a go Reinardina, my weekends just seem to dissapear on me at the moment without me realising!

Andydo, my understanding of abstract art / photography (this is taken from my art GCSE knowledge of 5 years ago, bear in mind!) is that it is a picture which doesn't attempt to show a concrete object or image. When I think of abstract art I think of shapes, lines and colours which exist outside of the everyday, not attempting to replicate reality. It's quite a wide theme and I'm sure everyone has different interpretations (which is why I think it will be so interesting), but I think of Piet Mondrain, Kandinsky, or even sculptures like those of Barbara Hepworth. I've just googled abstract photography (though some of the shots are, in my eyes, a little dubious), there seems to be a prevelence for macro objects, unusual angles of buildings / items, and plenty of oppurtunity to layer on photoshop.

Of course, this is only my (rather rusty) view of abstract composition, others may have other ideas
