Getting a new IPS monitor

I have been waiting for Dell to have a sale, and today they do. The UltraSharp U2412M 24 inch IPS LCD monitor is on sale (in Canada anyway) for $120 off the regular price.

I got spousal approval to order

I have been wanting a larger monitor for a while and the IPS panel is just great, so sharp and excellent colour reproduction.

I will post back when it arrives.

I was wanting the ViewSonic, as I was already using one of theirs, but at the time they were almost impossible to get hold of. I did some investigating and found out the Dell uses the same panel as the ViewSonic so the quality should be identical.

They both use an LG panel. I may end up using a dual monitor set up with my old HP 1905b, which I really like, I just wanted more space.

dual monitors are great. Lightroom takes advantage of dual screen with the loupe on one side and the business end on the other, good for having my image viewer on one screen and photoshop on the other so you can just drag images into photoshop.

Also good for watching vids/tutorials/ iPlayer on one while working on the other.

Ok, this is great. It is so much larger than my 19 inch HP. The colours are better too even uncalibrated. It has built in support for a bunch of profiles.

I have not tried dual monitors yet, I may not get what I want as my Mac Mini on has one video connector, so I would not get real dual screen out of a DVI splitter (at least I do not think so.

Donoreo a splitter would not give dual monitor support at best it would display the same image twice however you can get USB graphics adaptors such as this which should do what you want.

I have not tried or seen one so you will need to do your homework.

A splitter can work if the card inside is a dual even if it is coming out one port. I did not think my Mini has one and it does not.

I just found out today that Mountain Lion, the next Mac OS version will not run on mine because of the heavier graphics requirements.

Don't you just love Apple's OS naming policy, Mountain Lion is so much better than plain old Windows 8.
