Canon 1100D vs Rebel T3

I am about to enter the world of DSLR cameras and have looked at various specifications of makes and models and have identified the Canon 1100D as the one I want. So I started looking around for places to buy it and have found one on a well known auction site for £330 new and it has the IS lens. Brilliant I thought until I noticed it is the Rebel T3 model and not the 1100D.

It is said to be in Brighton and comes with next day delivery and a years warranty but the sellers shop says he is in the US - Hence the T3 model for sale (i guess).

So because of this I started to look around a bit more for an 1100D model with the IS lens which is nigh on impossible, and certainly will cost me more.

I am hoping to get a camera and memory card for about £350 and that wont be possible if I get an 1100D model. Therefore, should I be put off the T3 because it is the T3 not the 1100D? Apart from the IS lens, are there any other specification differences? Will UK bought lenses fit OK?

Any tips or advise would be great.

Thanks

Lenses will fit no problem but you will not get a Canon warranty which is probably 2yrs if its the same as Nikon. You will get the shop warranty which is crap. Have you considered Nikon? You can but a new d3000 with Nikons UK 2yr warranty with vr lens for £300 on amazon Nice camera and within your budget. Nikon and Canon are the 2 biggest players in the dslr market so there are plenty of choice for lenses and accessories for the both. You got £50 spare to buy a tripod which you will need if you want to shoot landscapes.

They are of course the same cameras, they just have different naming systems for Europe and America. Canon Europe use ****D while canon USA us T*, they just have a different badge on the front.

The T3 indicates the camera has been imported from America and will probably be a 'grey' import.

I would check out the bona fides and reviews of the ebay shop first to make sure I was happy with the outfit before even considering buying from them, if you are happy you have to ask yourself about the warranty.

Manufacturers warrantees are all well and good but they are in fact of less value than the protection offered by the Sale of Goods Act in the UK whether you get one or 2 years. The sale of Goods Act supercedes these warrantees by protecting you for 6 years against unreasonable failure.

The crux though comes in trying to get the seller to abide by the sale of goods act by replacing or repairing the item without argument. This can be a palava for a company that doesn't play ball and it can be easier to claim via the manufacturer's warranty.

Given that most cameras don't go wrong in the warranty period you'd need to ask yourself whether the savings made buying the T3 are worth the risk of not having the manufacturer's warranty or having to return it to the country of origin for repair and hope you have a camera that doesn't go wrong, or whether you prefer the safety of buying the UK product and having the warranty & sale of goods act to fall back on.

Oh, and Canon don't have a two year warranty as standard, it is one year, but they have special deals from time to time offering two years on selected models (unless it's changed recently)

The company wouldn't be digigood by any chance as they are based in Brighton.

As Cathus says you will not get canons warranty but digigoods warranty their delivery times are a bit optimistic, but otherwise I found them ok as I bought a 60D from them

I was looking at the Nikon D3000 on Amazon but it doesn't have Live View which I would like. Would it make much difference in practice?

Live view is handy for focusing on macro work but I don't use it for anything else.
