The Art of Photography

Since this section of the forum is entitled 'The Art of Photography' I thought it appropriate to post the follwing here!

An exhibition entitled 'The Art of Photography - From Plate Camera to Computer' will take place from 6th October - 24th October in Walton-on-Thames.

This comparative exhibition of early prints from the Royal Photographic Society Collection and digital prints made by today’s photographers will open in October 2010 in Walton on Thames, Surrey. The concept is Old and New - comparing work from as far back as 1845 with modern, digital prints, inviting conclusions about what we are doing today and what our predecessors did, albeit with vastly different equipment.

The exhibition will be held at

The Robert Phillips Gallery
Riverhouse
Manor Road
Walton-on-Thames
KT12 2PF
Tel 10932 254198

Opening hours are :- Wed.-Sat. 11am-4pm Sunday 2.30 - 4.30.

Google map the post code for directions. You will see plenty of photo opportunities in the local area. Hampton Court, Brooklands Museum, River Thames etc..etc..etc.

Walton-on-Thames railway station is a fair walk away, so cars maybe a better option if you so decide to visit. There is ample parking some 3-400 yards away by the river at Walton Bridge at a place called Cowie Sale. (see Google map)

Pleasant pubs around for food.

Wink Destination Photography

This is a good idea ABERS.

Probably everyone could propose the hot spots in the city or place that live or visit, for example where photo-exhibitions take place at a given time. Something like "Photography Destination" or "Destination .... (the city)". I will prepare something ....("Destination Athens").

Greetings .. αR

Photography Destination: Athens (Sept. 2010)

1.Street Photography: The area between metro stations Acropolis – Monastiraki – Thissio - Votanikos is the most popular. This means that any photograph you take, at least 20 people have taken a similar one some minutes before you. But this area is nice to walk and to photograph around, just feel like Henri Cartier-Bresson, invisible. People generally are friendly; you only have to smile at them.
My proposal is the fish market at Athina's street early in the morning.
2.Museums & Galleries: All in my family like to visit the Benaki museum. [ Museum Benaki ]. Many nice art exhibitions are taking place there during the year. At the museum shop there are many books about art available and my daughter likes a lot the sweets at the café.
My proposal is Benaki museum.
3.Families: An always nice visit is at the zoo [ Zoo ], where the animals are almost free and photogenic.
My proposal is a visit at the children’s museum. [ childrensartmuseum ]
4.City Lights: From Lykabettus hill one can see the bigger part of the city.
My proposal is to visit the Galaxy bar at the roof of Hilton’s hotel, especially if it’s raining, but please stay cool and don’t start dancing and singing .… like Gene Kelly or Frank Sinatra.
5.Landscape & Nature: the National and the Botanic garden are calm and nice for walks at the city center.
My proposal is to go by the coast road from Faliro to the temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion either by car or by bus (about 1 hour). On the way you can read a book about the history of the place, about the geometrical concept of the temple, or afterwards at a fish tavern somewhere there.
The sunset from there is absolutely adorable [ Sounion ].
6.Athens @ PhotoRadar: Some very nice photographs can be seen here for your inspiration.
7.City aroma: The women photographers NELLY’S (1899-1998) [ NELLY'S] and Voula Papaioannou (1898-1990) whose photographs of 50’s and 60’s I prefer [ V. Papaioannou ].
If you find any exhibition with their photographs I suggest that you don’t miss it ....... αR
