GEOTagging

I've got a Canon EOS60D and am planning a California holiday for later this year.

I'm trying to find a suitable solution for GEOTagging without spending a fortune, I figure the cheapest option is something like a garmin gps receiver but has anyone done geotagging, and if so, what equipment do you use

Not done it myself but one option and definately the cheapest is if you have a smartphone such as an IPhone or an Android device you can get GeoTagging apps for them.

A few years ago I used my Magellan to produce a route of my hike which some app (can't remember the name but it was free - I'm sure Google will find it if it still exists) then took the time of each point, compared it to the EXIF from the JPGs from my dSLR and placed the image onto the route. It was all a bit clunky but did work - but I found I actually remembered where I was pretty well (also a bit clunky but not quite so time consuming! ) so I didn't use it too much!

Nowadays I don't go to quite such inaccessible spots, don't bother ensuring my dSLR clock is spot-on (I actually leave it on GMT) and use my mobile for when I need some GPS assistance!
