canon 55-250mm lense

hello everyone

i have looked on amazon for the canon 55-250mm lense, and it is showing me two and they are

Canon EF.S 55-250mm F.4-5.6 Telephoto Lense - Price is £139.99
Canon 55-250mm/F.4-5.6 IS USM lense - Price £175.0.0.
I dont think that canon do a 55-250mm USM lense for that price, so can anyone tell
me what the difference is between the two lenses for the price

regards ron moore

There is/was an EF 55-200 USM lens, but it did not have IS. There is no EF-S 55-250 USM lens, but two versions (both pretty much the same) of the EF-S 55-250 IS

I have the EF-S 55-250 IS I (first version) and it is a very good lens for the price.

Perhaps posting links to the actual lenses we can take a look.

I have the same as Donoro and agree it is a good lens for the price.
As far as I am aware the second generation lens does not have USM but does have UD lens, maybe there was an error in the advertisement. The main difference between the first and second generation lens is cosmetic changes in the body construction and coatings on the lens glass.
It may be worth looking at the Canon site Ron.

Those are the same lens. No USM, so it is not worth the extra money. Either someone made a mistake or they are trying to fool people into paying more thinking there is USM. There is one that is the II version on that page. See above for the differences. I purchased mine used, but I did it from a store where I was able to test it. I even got a 3 year warranty on it.
