Tilting at Windmills for ages .....

Went back to the old windmill at Lynemouth tonight to try my first star trail shot.

Remembered to get the north star in the shot so I got the circles.

90 images @30 secs stitched together.

Decided to not correct the perspective sloping as it sort of points to the centre of the star circle ... might do another one with it straightened later.

I completely agree that the perspective sloping adds to this image and have found through trial and error that when photos are taken looking up towards an object with the star trail or similarly a star burst filter, the sloping adds an extra dimension. As in this case, the image can also be used as an arrow to emphasise or draw the eye to an effect or the centra of an image.

Could you tell me if a filter was used to take this image please? Cracking shot

Lovely shot Paul , and as far as I'm concerned the tilt works for this shot perfectly .

Quick question , do you find that multiple exposures work better than one long one ?
I have only tried single 30 min exposures so far which worked great but not sure if the multiple method has any advantages .

Interesting point. I have to use multiple shots for two reasons. Firstly, light pollution (and a 3/4 moon). If I take one long shot (in the area I was) the sky would burn out. Secondly taking multiple shots helps to keep the noise down in the image. Which method someone uses will depend on where you are shooting I reckon, but I'm very new to this so just my humble opinion.

Super shot Paul,I wouldn't change any perspective.There are times when you need to change the angles to the vertical but in this shot the angle of the tower adds to the dynamic of the shot inho.
