what lense

hello everyone

I have just been looking at some of the photographs in the members gallery, and i must say
that some of the pictures are stunning, but I would like to ask why the lense
that was used to take the picture is not in the information.

regards ron moore

That is a good question. There is lots of info that is not needed, but not the lens. In most cases that should be in the EXIF data, unless it is stripped out by the editing software.

They are still working on the galleries, so the data shown for photos will probably change. Put this as a request in the bugs thread.

They need to make sure the server is running Imagemagick / GD2 / or jhead. and set the path to it in config.

Imagemagick would be my choice though. Then you will see the exif as expected. It won't show the lens model, but will show focal length, plus all the othe missing exif info. However they could set a custom field so you could add the lens model on upload. Thats how I got around it on my site, and it works well.

The data is there in the EXIF. It's the last entry and is called (strangely enough) Focal Length. For some unaccountable reason it's given as a fraction. i.e. 35/1 = 35mm
Unless you you need to know the actual lens being used, like 18-200mm, but is that really a help?

The difference. This site,

Same shot using Imagemagick to pull EXIF. The four custom fields I added are just below keywords. Camera / Lens / Photo location / Critique welcome, Yes / No.

If Imagemagick will process the information properly, I'll look into getting installed on the server.

I'd be very surprised if it's not already installed to be honest, you've been running photography sites and galleries in the past. Run and check your php.info file, that'll show you if it's there and enabled on the server.
