Thanks for the positive crit Mark. Glad it had merit after all. Struggled so much to get it right, and still it wasn't quite up to scratch.

Be proud of that image Reinadina, it had everything going for it, but like I have said before it has to rock peoples boat to get a vote. It was a great image perfectly exposed and met the breif spot on, you could do no more.

Well done Dan a great win, I was torn between your's and Marks and it was very close, funny enough the first place I thought of when the topic came up was Beach Avenue in Dorset, I couldn't think of anything nearby like that but Mark found it in his neck of the woods, even though he had the location he took a superb shot with great tones and an excellent coposition so well done Mark.

Up -Reinardina - Clock Tower

I really liked this shot Reinardinia, nicely exposed which is difficult givent the bright sky and darker ground, nice tones but there was something that didn't quite give it the umph it deserved, I think Mark is right a tighter crop would have given it more impact also a nice B & W conversion may of worked well. Having said that it is a lovely shot.

Down - Deena - Going Up

Another favourite, loved the tones, loved the angle and felt it was bang on theme my only criticism is that I didn't think of it

Thanks for the crits Mark I agree it is overprocessed (been going through a bad processing stage), I wanted to give the image more gritiness and impact but think closer to the original (ISO 100 so no noise) with a B & W conversion would have been more sensible, Reinardina I did think about going up to the cliff to shoot down but firstly I was on a familly walk on the beach and secondly I am not good with heights so would of stood there screamming like a girl

I will have another look at that image and reprocess it with more consideration

Looking forward to the next theme

And a big thank you to Mark for taking the time and trouble to give constructive and valuable feedback on all our shots.

Hello everyone,
Congrats dan123 on your winning image.
As soon as you posted this I thought I might as well not bother!
Excellent slow shutter speed shot, it would have been my second choice.

Thank you Jeff or keeping me out of the Nil Club!

Up Digidiva: Overgrown
Great idea and met the brief.
A stronger composition would have helped this pic.
Maybe using landscape instead of portrait.
I feel putting the camera lower down nearer to the train track and having the leading lines in the middle of
image may have made this a stronger entry. OMP.
Try not to worry though Chris, there are so many talented photographers in this group it's hard to
compete.
I feel we can only learn from them and take some inspiration from their pics.
Down ogri1st: Heavenly bridge
Super POV and shot, but I feel the tree is a little distracting and the image not quite as crisp as it could be.

Cutter got my vote, excellent shot Mark.
Really liked the trees framing the lane and the Autumnal colours.

Congrats Dan on the win.. My vote went to Mark as I loved the compostion and the focus, I really wanted to know what lay beyond the trees!..

Cheers, Reinardina for the vote....saved from Nillie-dom!......

A bit short tonight, I am cream crackered, was up all night with a fever and been mostly in bed all day today...hopefully I'll be fit enough for work tomorrow.

On a happy note though, I summoned up the energy to go with Tammy to view a stone built, farm cottage today to rent...it's a lovely, rustic looking place on a working farm, with a wood burning stove....so fingers crossed when we go back to "measure up" it will take all our stuff..

right I'm off to bed....

Good win Dan, this was in my favourites, but when i went to view it the image was very small. Unfortunately in my book that means very little chance of a vote. Sorry.

I went for Cutter's lane, as everything in it drew my eye down to the point where it nipped behind the trees and i just wanted to go and find out what was round that corner. Great shot Mark.

Reinardina and DD, don't get too upset by the lack of votes, it really is very small differences to your images that would make a hell of a difference. A slight crop here, a straightening there, a small local adjustment to exposure, paying attention to composition. You are both so close, i don't think you realise how much you've improved, but keep persevering and you will get there.
And remember, even Mark doesn't get votes sometimes!

I thought the standard was excellent this week and it proved very hard to cast a vote. It's unfortunate that only one vote is allowed.

Cheers, Sie

Thanks Sie!

Your pat on the back cheered me up no end.

Dave (Wavemachine) thank you too for your positive crit.

There's something about this particular competition, that somehow has too much influence on my moods. Don't know what it is, but it can take over my (ohotographic) life, and there is so much more I want/need to do.
Hence my periodic withdrawals.
