Chris,

it's a StopShot by Cygnosis (Google it), which is an electronic box into which you plug various things and it triggers the flashguns and/or camera.

I have a water release valve rigged up to it so when I press the button a water droplet is released, it falls through a laser trigger, when the laser detects the water drop it sends a signal to the StopShot which in turn sends a signal a set time later to the flashguns to fire which captures the water drop.

You change the time between the droplet going through the laser and the flashguns firing by a few thousandths of a second and this captures a different moment in the life of the water splash.

You can also plug different detectors into the StopShot, such as movement detectors or sound detectors to capture different things, like wildlife, baloons bursting, bullets going through apples etc etc
