Thanks a lot Nick for the feedback. :-) Does the steam from these polute the atmosphere or is it safer than most industrial vapours?
There shouldn't be any pollution to the atmosphere from these cooling towers.* The towers are used to condensate and recover water from the steam that has been used on the heat exchanger of a power or chemical plant. The water used is in a separate system to the water/steam used to drive the turbines, so shouldn't become contaminated/irradiated.
Thanks, Nick they were very interesting! :-) I've actually stood inside a disused one but never new the dynamics of how they worked. I never even knew there were different kinds either. I think I am going to try and photograph all the ones in the UK and some in Europe as part of a large project next year.
