Canon EOS 1D Mark IV released - exciting news, no? And only a shade under £4500.00 too.

I'm always quite intruiged by the 1D range. It's the APS-H sensors really. Canon are the only company (as far as I know) who use the format and the rumoured IDsMKIV will obviously have a full frame sensor.

It's going to be interesting to see whether, if the rumours about these being the last 1D range before the advent of the theoretical 3D, Canon stick with APS-H in the future.

The APS H is a great compromise between the advantages of FF and crop sensors, in a camera body intended for sports and general commercial photography. One of the main benefits is that the aperture can be more open for the same depth of field as a FF, and the reduced field of view means that there's more bang for buck out of the same focal length lenses.

It would be a shame if Canon do decide to do away with it, I'd like to have seen the 7D with a sensor like this, although that would of course rule out the Ef-s lenses and restrict it's appeal.

That's my point. I like having the ability (in theory at least - my budget doesn't reach as far as I might like!) to select formats.

APS-H makes sense to me and I agree that it would be a shame to see it go. I just don't know how many people agree!

No it's not full frame, it's APS-H, like the 1D MkIII.

Whilst Flake is right that the APS-H is a good compromise, I still like my full frame 5D for wide stuff and when I really want to go for shallow DOF.

And Marcus, I do hope you are joking when you say only £4500! What are they going to pitch the 1DsMKIV at? £9K?
