Woodpecker

I took this with my new upgrade. went from a Canon 1000D to the 60D and boy what a difference. This was taken in poor light, so had to up the ISO. Also, it was hand held so pleased it's as sharp as it is (couldn't go for the shutter speed I wanted, to match my lens). Would love your comments.

It has a bit of noise but it's still as sharp as a tack. Cracking shot and well spotted. Not bad for handheld at 160/s.

Well captured Chris , I know how hard these birds are to creep up on .

Yes there is a bit more noise than I would of expected at ISO 320 but the focus is spot on and the background is nicely blurred .

Can I ask what PP you did on this shot .

Mark

Oldboy - I was surprised at the noise but on checking back, for that shot, I used a pre setting and I think it auto set the ISO to 3200 ( does the other 0 not show on the exif??)!!!! hahaha no wonder there is noise! Lesson learned. Must use manual from now on.

Andydo - Was taken at Washingtom Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust - and yes, about time Bruce went!!

Markgozz - As above, re the noise. I have just gotten Element 10 and not found way around yet so use a combination of things. I can't suss out how to crop properly on elements so used Picasa to crop. I then used elements for brightness/contrast, unsharp mask and thats about it. I didn't have to creep us. I was in a hide in our local WWT so was just a case of patience in waiting till the right birds appeared.

Thanks guysfor your comments. Much appreciated.

DD Take a look in elements at Filter\Noise\Despeckle that will reduce the noise, there is also another command in the same menu Reduce Noise which may be worth having a play with.

A lovely shot.

No, the Exif data says ISO 320. That explains the noise. On the D3 I can go upto ISO 24,600 but have it locked down to 6,400. Perhaps you can do the same with the D60.
